For the Beauty of the Earth

Whenever I hear the song of a bird
Or look at the blue, blue sky,
Whenever I feel the rain on my face
Or the wind as it rushes by,
Whenever I touch a velvet rose
Or walk by a lilac tree,
I'm glad that I live in this beautiful world
Heavenly Father created for me.

He gave me my eyes that I might see
The color of butterfly wings.
He gave me my ears that I might hear
The magical sound of things.
He gave me my life, my mind, my heart:
I thank him reverently
For all his creations, of which I'm a part.
Yes, I know Heavenly Father loves me.

I was feeling a bit blue last night and today, but I first of all got a call from a dear friend who has been so faithful at checking in on me and caring about my life and then I had a nice long call with my dear Mom and I felt loved. I then just went for a stroll in my neighborhood and it instantly made me feel so grateful for all the beauty around. It's Springtime, it's Easter weekend and the birds singing and the flowers in bloom all attest to rebirth, resurrection, hope, love. I love this beautiful world and I just hope people figure out what an amazing gift it is and how important it is for us to take care of it. Nothing lifts me more than nature - in nothing do I feel God's love more. In a turbulent, unsteady, frightening time in my life, I know I need to count my blessings and try to see things in a positive light and really just embrace the unsteadiness of it all. I'm grateful to be alive and part of being alive is feeling all the emotions, good and bad, it's experiencing highs and lows. But all of it gives me more knowledge, character and growth.
