Cranford

I finally finished watching Cranford. It was fantastic. It is a packed cast of amazing actors. Judi Dench was so lovely. It was funny, sweet and moving. I mean I was sobbing in parts of it. I hope BBC/Masterpiece Theatre never runs out of material. I also wish I could act in a Masterpiece Theatre period piece, that really would be enough joy to last me a lifetime. But in the meantime I'll just revel in watching them.

Up

Pixar did it again! I'm just getting around to mentioning this movie, but we went and saw it on Monday night and loved it. It was so sweet, funny, moving and creative. I don't know how they do it, but I'm glad they do. If you have any doubts at all about seeing this movie, I would urge you to go, it really is beautiful. Oh, and the Pixar short they show at the beginning is also a lot of fun.

Yet another reason I like England

This James Bond has got some flavor, huh. Daniel Craig for an ice-cream, summer just got exciting in England.

The food company Del Monte asked 1,000 British women to vote on which celebrity they deem worthy enough to appear as a delicious ice pop, and the current James Bond star won. Thus, for a very limited time (now through June 7), you can pick up one of these limited-edition Daniel Craig pops and do whatever it is you’d like to do to it (we don’t want to know). The catch? They’re only being sold in England. Sorry ladies (and men) from wherever it is in the world you live that isn’t England.

Sweetness is my weakness

According to Lemonade Poem; “The Jesusita Fire in Santa Barbara, CA last week caused these two to take shelter together. The fawn is 3 days old and the bobcat about 3 weeks. The fawn came from somewhere in the fire and the bobcat from Carpentaria. They immediately bonded and snuggled together under a desk in the Santa Barbara County Dispatch Office for several hours.”

This is truly the sweetest thing I've ever seen. I can't handle this much adorableness. You'd have to be a robot or a jerk not to have your heart warmed by this image.

I love old SNL - it had heart. I liked this film from the 1st season.

Burgers

Sadly, we are planning on getting burgers tonight. Sigh. But from a really great burger place, not like McD's or anything, isn't that better? No? Well, too bad, it's Friday, bring it on.

If that mockingbird don't sing

A few weeks ago a bird started singing in the middle of the night outside our bedroom window. Most birds start singing in the morning when the sun comes up, so one can climb out of bed and start the day to the lovely songs of the birds, just like Cinderella. But this bird is rebellious and instead stays up all night twittering away (no, not that twitter - he thinks twitter is overhyped and lame). Also, it's not a sweet, calming, melodious song, lulling you to sleep - it is an odd, garbling, hyper calling. I did a little investigation online and it turns out it's a mockingbird, and mockingbirds do just that, they mock all the other birds' sounds, resulting in a cacophony of craziness. So, every night our little lonely friend perches in the echoing alley outside our apartment building and becomes the Rich Little of the bird world, much to our lack-of-sleep dismay.

Saa-lute

While looking for a new wall clock online today, I found this little gem. For all those who still mourn the cancellation of Hee-Haw.

Little Dorrit

I finally finished the fifth and final installment of PBS Masterpiece Theatre's Little Dorrit this weekend. I loved it so very much. It was a fantastic cast of some of the best British actors and an exciting, interesting story. I just can't say enough how much I enjoyed every second of it. I never really liked reading Dickens, I must say, although I haven't since probably High School, he just felt dry and long, but I sure loved this filmed adaptation. Masterpiece Theatre is the greatest - I've loved it all my life. Nothing I like more than an evening spent with a good British period piece.
