I cannot say that I am happy, because you already know that I'm not, but I wanted to tell you that I AM happy for your happiness. Boy, that word looses its luster when you say it too much.

Really though. I don't ever want to hear you say you've lost your pride in this nation for any reason, and you've been saying it a lot lately. Our blessings in this land are too great to ignore for the sake of a few (or even a few hundred) individuals you disagree with. Would you also be so quick to lay out the same type of shame for your religion if you felt its leaders were taking it in a direction you couldn't stand behind? I'm sounding really preachy now and I don't want that.

I do have hope that is similar, but still very different from yours. I hope that all this "hope" actually amounts to something that I can stand behind because the man's not had one idea yet that I support. He definitely has his work cut out for him. Much like Weitz does for New Moon - I just had to throw that in there, I was getting much too serious.

I love you to pieces, Heidi, and that's why it affects me so much to hear some of your thoughts that leave me a bit bewildered. As you also know, I've gone through these types of discussions with other loved ones lately too. Speaking of which, if you and Whit want to know all about living more "naturally" get in touch with Kait. She's lived it all and would be a great resource for information. She's very happy to share her knowledge and experiences. Have I told you that she's engaged? Well, she is and he's wonderful.

Anyway, I'll conclude this particular novel with that reassurance that I am happy for your happiness regardless of how I feel about the reasons for it.

I've been crazy busy lately - so not much time to respond, but let me just say that I don't think seeing problems with ones country means they value their freedoms or their country any less. If anything I think the desire to want to see better from the government, to see better from the country is a show of how much they do care about their country. I'm not happy with the lies, torture, stupidity, obesity, or any other of the big problems that have been present. I believe in what this country was founded on - I know we are capable of more. I believe we can be leaders in this world again. I believe we can be better than we have been under this last administration. This is not me ignoring the blessings of this land, this is me believing we deserve the best, that we can be the best. I'm not going to have false pride - I can not be proud of leaders like Bush and Cheney - but that does not make me unpatriotic - it means I care enough about my country to want the best for it, to want to see it thrive again.

Of course I want Obama to back up his words, but only time will tell that. I choose to be optimistic. I do agree with his thoughts, I do believe he is a good, honest, honorable man. And that's fine that you and I will disagree on what we think our government should be involved with, or what we think is politically right. That's why we live in a democracy, so we can disagree. But I hope the country can try to find some unity, and again, that's why I think Obama is great - I think he wants to try to unify the country as well. I just hope those who feel differently, such as yourself, can try to not condemn him before he's even had a chance.

That's exciting about Katie. I'm glad you like the guy.

Love you. Let's agree to disagree, right?
